I saw this article and I thought I would share it. I haven’t really touched on GMO foods all that much. The comments on this article seem to question the authors facts somewhat, but then who knows who to believe these days. Some of the comments seem to be made by those who are paid to comment on such articles (one poster claims). Also, this is one of those sites that is kind of “out there” no doubt about it. It truly is a battle of who will control what are “facts” these days. I don’t know how credible the author or the AAEM are. I am only passing this on, not saying it’s fact or my opinion in fact I’m skeptical of some of the information, however, it’s worth reading. This type of article always brings out a lot of harsh comments but I hope we can stick to what this might mean for us rather than just lashing out, remember, we have no idea really how much of this article is really verifiable. Below is but a snippet of the article.

American Academy of Environmental Medicine Calls for Immediate Moratorium on All Genetically Modified Foods

http://www.opednews.com/articles/American-Academy-of-Enviro-by-Jeffrey-M-Smith-090519-809.html

gmofarmers GM corn and cotton are engineered to produce their own built-in pesticide in every cell. When bugs bite the plant, the poison splits open their stomach and kills them. Biotech companies claim that the pesticide, called Bt-produced from soil bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis-has a history of safe use, since organic farmers and others use Bt bacteria spray for natural insect control. Genetic engineers insert Bt genes into corn and cotton, so the plants do the killing.

Worst finding of all-GMOs remain inside of us

The only published human feeding study revealed what may be the most dangerous problem from GM foods. The gene inserted into GM soy transfers into the DNA of bacteria living inside our intestines and continues to function. This means that long after we stop eating GMOs, we may still have potentially harmful GM proteins produced continuously inside of us. Put more plainly, eating a corn chip produced from Bt corn might transform our intestinal bacteria into living pesticide factories, possibly for the rest of our lives.

When evidence of gene transfer is reported at medical conferences around the US, doctors often respond by citing the huge increase of gastrointestinal problems among their patients over the last decade. GM foods might be colonizing the gut flora of North Americans.

This quote seemed to really strike a chord in me, a large part of our battle is in the Gut, in fact, probably most of it is.

Please, if you comment on this thread DO NOT BASH OR USE COMPANY NAMES. I am not going to condemn folks and partake in lynching’s. Posts that mention company names might be removed.

  1. Wow.

The article you linked to *was* worth reading.

“There is nothing to be reached upon the present lines except the increasing loss of property by everybody, as something swallowed up into a system equally impersonal and inhuman, whether we call it Communism or Capitalism.” G.K. Chesterton – 1926

“Communism stops only when it encounters a wall, even if it is only a wall of resolve.”

  2. Glad to see that an organization is coming forward to address the issue of GMO’s
    per your article:

We need to get behind this group!

Yesterday, I was talking to my Aunt who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Odd that this woman has cancer because she is a Dietitian and eats only ‘healthy’ foods, does not drink or smoke and is very active. She swims, walks several miles per day with her walking ‘club’, and has a very hectic schedule. No couch potato.

She mentioned to me that she eats YOPLAIT yogurt and I thought about what I had just read about Martek at the Natural News link.

While I knew that Martek was producing foods that were GM- and that their
products contained Diatoms (silica) that some find in specimens, I didn’t
know about the Hexane and what exactly that could do to a person- especially given the SOY (GM) content.

    Everyone needs to read this:

    http://www.naturalnews.com/026303.html

    Fair use

    Excerpt:
But how dangerous is hexane, exactly? Is it something that could be dangerous at a few parts per million? And which soy-based products on the market right now might be contaminated with hexane?

To answer these questions, NaturalNews looked into public documents surrounding Martek Biosciences Corporation, a company that manufactures DHA for infant formula, using hexane for extraction.

We found disturbing details about Martek, including a documented explosion in the wastewater treatment system downstream from the manufacturing plant. This explosion was caused by hexane pollution.

We also found documents revealing Martek’s application for permission to pollute hexane into the environment, as well as a planned emission cap that would put the company just under the limit for being considered a “major polluter” of Hazardous Air Pollutants.

Additional documents reveal concerning information about the safety of Martek’s oils used in infant formula. All this information is being released in tomorrow’s feature story on NaturalNews, so be sure to check back to read that. The remainder of this story focuses on the use of hexane in soy products.

What you probably never knew about Hexane extraction
To learn more about the use of hexane in the health industry — and in soy products in particular — we turn to the Cornucopia Institute’s recently-published report called Behind the Bean

This report contains some of the most shocking information you’ve probably ever read about the possible dangers of this chemical solvent used in the processing of soy. Here are some highlights of what it explains about hexane: (Quotation marks indicate exact verbiage from the Behind the Bean report.)

We need to wake up fast to what is going on in the world and what we can do to effect change.

Jill, there is a follow up (just out) on the natural news article you posted, here it is:

    http://www.naturalnews.com/026315.html

    With this amazing quote:

The Martek Biosciences facility in Winchester produces two single cell oils, each of which is enriched in a specific fatty acid. One is a triglyceride oil enriched in DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) derived from a marine microalgae (DHASCO®) and the second is a triglyceride oil enriched in ARA (arachidonic acid) derived from a common soil organism (ARASCO®). The process begins when a biomass is produced through cultivation of a starter seed culture, particular to the oil to be produced, in a series of increasingly larger fermentors. After the final fermentation, in the case of the marine algae, the biomass is spray dried. The ARASCO® biomass must be dried through other means at a toll processing facility. The oil is extracted from the dried biomass using a hexane extraction process. The oil is winterized, refined, bleached, and deodorized to produce the final product.

This is why I refer to our food as “Food Like Substances” and I didn’t coin that term by the way. I’m not picking on any particular company, basically all of our food is made through horrible mineral stripping intoxin injecting processes. I mean read that last sentence of that paragraph above folks, that isn’t food, it IS NOT.

My wife and children are down at the local farmers market today, today is the opening day, they do a booming business and they are springing up all over. Eat as natural as you can folks…

Finally, one wonders what the “common soil organism” is that they use in the process? Sure wish I knew …. Our bodies are like soil, home for all kinds of soil based organism’s, is it any wonder?

  4. The “common soil organism” used in the process turns out to be a filamentous unicellular soil fungus ‘Mortierella alpina’. Checking that shows genetically altered forms are commercially available for producting ARA. Info on ARASO reported by Canadian health agenciy found here http://tinyurl.com/pflv7y.

“Studies” on toxicity – especially for infants – do not appear to have been either longterm or inclusive. (And don’t you wonder how these infants were recruited?) At first glance looks like the typical trials used commercially now. Not what I consider rigorous by any stretch. If there’s a term that combines “science” with “commercial use” & “profit”, it would apply here…

Agree that this falls into that unknown realm of food substitutes that are being slipped into our food supply at an alarming rate. The combined consequences of how these interact in human bodies? An ongoing experiment in vast populations. Can’t see how this can be good.

Bee colonies drop another 29 percent: ‘Something is going wrong,’ Florida beekeeper says

    http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/business/epaper/2009/05/19/0519beelosses.html?cxtype=rss&cxsvc=7&cxcat=6

Dave Hackenberg, a beekeeper who winters his bees in Florida, criticized the survey for not asking the right question. He said his hive numbers dropped from 3,500 in October 2008 to 2,800 this January, within the time period of the survey. But by February, he had lost 300 more hives.

“It’s spring, but the hives aren’t growing. I’m finding them blown out, dead or gone,” Hackenberg said from Maine Tuesday.

Hayes added: “There have been beekeepers out there who have taken another phenomenal loss this year. Honeybees simply are not healthy.

Surprise! Organic Beekeepers Reporting Zero Losses

    Jill

  7. Mr. Common Sense said:

Yes Jill, and virtually nobody reports this fact do they? That report is from 2007, I wonder if that is still true that organic bee keepers aren’t having this problem. Why does the press never reports this? Well, because what is happening to the bees is happening to us. This is the way we treat our entire food supply from plants to the animals that we eat. Very soon now I am going to write up my final thoughts on Morgellons, I think I have enough information and insight from my research and valuable folks who email and post on my blog (such as yourself) to layout a very compelling case. I would love to spill the beans right here in this post but need to do this the right way. I will say this though, studying fibers will yield very little valuable information IMHO. Suppose someone publishes the chemical makeup of the fibers? “Then what?” I say. No, what needs to take place is the culturing of a typical Morgellons sufferers “gut” or intestinal bacteria. Therein lies the key to discovering what Morgellons is and where the war is fought and won.

I’m so excited about this post, but my business has been suffering as I have been neglecting it and need to get back at it, so it will be at least a few weeks before I publish it. There are no extraordinary or bizarre “things” needed to explain Morgellons, it is in fact, as Mundane and predictable as it is widespread. But again, this is all just my opinion, nonetheless, I think it is going to prove to be a well educated guess.

      • Actually, what might prove very helpful is an extensive analysis of the intestinal bioterrain and a thorough biochemical analysis of patients to reveal any common patterns of mineral or nutrient deficiency or toxicity, hormonal imbalance or other unique physiological attributes.

At least these variables are something that we can identify and do something about. If it turns out that genetic manipulation of our environment is degrading our mitochondrial DNA, then perhaps the exposure of the above variables can provide clues to restoring our genetic integrity.

Once again, I applaud your discernment in recognizing the crucial role of the intestinal flora. For more info, see the article “Why Probiotics?” on our website, http://www.logosnutritionals.com .

    Pretty interesting read.

  9. This whole GMO issue is much like the financial bailout. In the bailout, private company executives serve on the boards that oversee their former employers. When their term is finnished, they go back to work at their old jobs for much higher salaries. Hmmm.

  11. Just read a NYT Sunday magazine article on “Do-It-Yourself Genetic Engineering” & I’m blown away by the synthetic biology of BioBricks! The sponsers read like a list of Who’s Who in international gene manipulation, with Monsanto at the top.

This sends chills down my spine. Believe this needs to be exposed in a new article, MCS.

Read through the article & the comments: http://tinyurl.com/y9pajoy

The results of this could make Morgellons look like the common cold.
