The Smoking Gun ?

I would like to share something with my readership that I’ve been sitting on for about 6 months. There is a brand of chips that I can eat that will bring on full blown Morgellons symptoms within 24 hours and it’s not merely an allergic reaction. It has happened to me twice and I’ve been afraid to try it a third time because I know beyond a shadow of doubt that it will happen again. The product is corn based, and it has only three ingredients (which I considered to be better than products with 40 or 50 ingredients, most of them chemicals). Here are the three ingredients, Whole White Corn, Corn Oil, and Salt. I now avoid all chips and products made with corn as much as I possibly can. I believe the consumption of GMO corn products (which describes most corn grown in the US) to be directly related to my illness, of course, I cannot prove this so it’s all just theory. The quote below highlighted in blue is incredibly descriptive of my struggle right down to the heart issues and I think maps directly to the total break down we all experience, or what I believe more aptly describes Morgellons , the complete failure of ones terrain.

The Effects of Genetically Modified Foods on Animal Health

In what is being described as the first ever and most comprehensive study of the effects of genetically modified foods on mammalian health, researchers have linked organ damage with consumption of Monsanto’s GM maize.

All three varieties of GM corn, Mon 810, Mon 863 and NK 603, were approved for consumption by US, European and several other national food safety authorities. Made public by European authorities in 2005, Monsanto’s confidential raw data of its 2002 feeding trials on rats that these researchers analyzed is the same data, ironically, that was used to approve them in different parts of the world.

The Committee of Research and Information on Genetic Engineering (CRIIGEN) and Universities of Caen and Rouen studied Monsanto’s 90-day feeding trials data of insecticide producing Mon 810, Mon 863 and Roundup® herbicide absorbing NK 603 varieties of GM maize.

The data “clearly underlines adverse impacts on kidneys and liver, the dietary detoxifying organs, as well as different levels of damages to heart, adrenal glands, spleen and haematopoietic (blood) system,” reported Gilles-Eric Séralini, a molecular biologist at the University of Caen.

Although different levels of adverse impact on vital organs were noticed between the three GMOs, the 2009 research shows specific effects associated with consumption of each GMO, differentiated by sex and dose.

Their December 2009 study appears in the International Journal of Biological Sciences (IJBS). This latest study conforms with a 2007 analysis by CRIIGEN on Mon 863, published inEnvironmental Contamination and Toxicology, using the same data.

Monsanto rejected the 2007 conclusions, stating:

“The analyses conducted by these authors are not consistent with what has been traditionally accepted for use by regulatory toxicologists for analysis of rat toxicology data.”

Séralini explained that their study goes beyond Monsanto’s analysis by exploring the sex-differentiated health effects on mammals, which Doull, et al. ignored:

“Our study contradicts Monsanto conclusions because Monsanto systematically neglects significant health effects in mammals that are different in males and females eating GMOs, or not proportional to the dose. This is a very serious mistake, dramatic for public health. This is the major conclusion revealed by our work, the only careful reanalysis of Monsanto crude statistical data.” [communication to author]

Other problems with Monsanto’s conclusions

When testing for drug or pesticide safety, the standard protocol is to use three mammalian species. The subject studies only used rats, yet won GMO approval in more than a dozen nations.

Chronic problems are rarely discovered in 90 days; most often such tests run for up to two years. Tests “lasting longer than three months give more chances to reveal metabolic, nervous, immune, hormonal or cancer diseases,” wrote Seralini, et al. in their Doull rebuttal. Further, Monsanto’s analysis compared unrelated feeding groups, muddying the results. The June 2009 rebuttal explains, “In order to isolate the effect of the GM transformation process from other variables, it is only valid to compare the GMO … with its isogenic non-GM equivalent.”

The researchers conclude that the raw data from all three GMO studies reveal novel pesticide residues will be present in food and feed and may pose grave health risks to those consuming them.

They have called for “an immediate ban on the import and cultivation of these GMOs and strongly recommend additional long-term (up to two years) and multi-generational animal feeding studies on at least three species to provide true scientifically valid data on the acute and chronic toxic effects of GM crops, feed and foods.”

Human health, of course, is of primary import to us, but ecological effects are also in play. Ninety-nine percent of GMO crops either tolerate or produce insecticide. This may be the reason we see bee colony collapse disorder and massive butterfly deaths.  If GMOs are wiping out Earth’s pollinators, they are far more disastrous than the threat they pose to humans and other mammals.

    Very interesting post thanks.
    I have experienced the exact same thing after eating corn chips, popcorn and other corn snack products. I recently developed suspicions of this and I am currently abstaining from these foods. I wonder if potatoes are GM too? Guess my snacks will have to be organic celery from now on 🙂 Will continue the experiment and keep you posted.

    My first outbreak occurred while eating soy or white corn chips from TJ’s, drinking soy milk, in front of the computer.

  3. I don’t know if GMO corn is THE smoking gun, but it is most certainly a smoking gun…

    GMO’s are increasingly pervasive in our environment, so avoidance is nearly impossible… even if you do abandon the great American junk food obsession… which is obviously MANDATORY if you have Morgellons and want to get better.

    The bucket theory that is associated with allergies applies here. These chemicals are accumulated in our fat because we lack an efficient means to detox them. Once our detoxification organs become overwhelmed and we cross a certain threshold of toxicity, we become extremely reactive to them.

    I read somewhere that Einstein was quoted to say “When the pollinators begin to disappear, mankind has three more years”. I don’t know if he actually said that, but it certainly makes sense.

    Man’s arrogance, pride and greed will be our downfall.

    Meanwhile, like everything else we are learning about Morgellons, this points back to the prime directive:

    Restore the terrain and detox, detox, detox.

    • I completely agree John, I should have titled the post a bit differently. I completely agree that “our detoxification organs become overwhelmed and we cross a certain threshold of toxicity” and then, in my opinion, full blown Morgellons sets in. You are also correct in that it’s very, very hard to avoid GMO food. Now pea’s, beet’s, everything is being GMO’d.

      I have always suspected our food supply as the culprit as it would take something such as the food supply to spread Morgellons so quickly and across the country like it has, and also into Eurpope. One wonders if you could everlay a map of Morgellons cases (self documented at this point of course) over the top of a map which shows the market penetration of GMO based food products. The author makes a good point about the bee’s and butterfly’s, something I’ve also suspected is related to our mess and blogged about as well.

  4. By the way, the study mentioned reveals the progressive deterioration to detoxification systems that is related to exposure to pesticide containing GMO crops. What it does not address is the equally devastating impact to cellular energy production (mitochondrial output) and hormonal disregulation (i.e.- estrogenizing effects that lead to thyroid suppression, heart rhythm issues, etc.).

    So in addition to supporting the body’s detoxification systems (NAC, Liver CS Plus), one might consider mitochondrial support (Ubinol Co Q10, acetyl L-Carnitine) and perhaps some thyroid glandular support (and iodine if needed).

    I mean honestly, how could they be, most corn in the US is now GMO, the same with soy beans … These crops are pesticides, the bugs eat them the bugs die, think about it folks

    Biofilm & Morgellons
    A biofilm is an aggregate of microorganisms in which cells are stuck to each other and/or to a surface.

    These adherent cells are frequently embedded within a self-produced matrix of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS). Biofilm EPS, which is also referred to as “slime,” is a polymeric jumble of DNA, proteins and polysaccharides. Biofilms may form on living or non-living surfaces, and represent a prevalent mode of microbial life in natural, industrial and hospital settings.

    The cells of a microorganism growing in a biofilm are physiologically distinct from planktonic cells of the same organism, which by contrast, are single-cells that may float or swim in a liquid medium. Microbes form a biofilm in response to many factors, which may include cellular recognition of specific or non-specific attachment sites on a surface, nutritional cues, or in some cases, by exposure of planktonic cells to sub-inhibitory concentrations of antibiotics.

    When a cell switches to the biofilm mode of growth, it undergoes a phenotypic shift in behavior in which large suites of genes are differentially regulated. Formation of a biofilm begins with the attachment of free-floating microorganisms to a surface. If the colonists are not immediately separated from the surface, they can anchor themselves more permanently using cell adhesion structures.
    Dispersal of cells from the biofilm colony is an essential stage of the biofilm lifecycle. Dispersal enables biofilms to spread and colonize new surfaces. Enzymes that degrade the biofilm extracellular matrix play a huge role in biofilm dispersal.

    Biofilm matrix degrading enzymes may be useful as anti-biofilm agents. Recent evidence has shown that a fatty acid messenger, cis-2-decenoic acid, is capable of inducing dispersion and inhibiting growth of biofilm colonies. Secreted by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, this compound induces dispersion in several species of bacteria and the yeast Candida albicans. Biofilms are usually found on solid substrates submerged in or exposed to some aqueous solution, although they can form as floating mats on liquid surfaces and also on the surface of leaves, particularly in high humidity climates. Given sufficient resources for growth, a biofilm will quickly grow to be macroscopic.
    Biofilms can contain many different types of microorganism, e.g. bacteria, archaea, protozoa, fungi and algae; each group performing specialized metabolic functions. However, some organisms will form monospecies films under certain conditions.

    Researchers from the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research have investigated the strategies used by biofilms. They discovered that biofilm bacteria apply chemical weapons in order to defend themselves against disinfectants and antibiotics, phagocytes and our immune system.

    The lead researcher, Dr. Carsten Matz, began a serious investigation in order to find why phagocytes cannot annihilate the biofilm bacteria. He analyzed the marine bacteria, which defend themselves against the amoebae, the behavior of which copies the behavior of phagocytes.

    The amoebae behave in the sea just like the immune cells in human body: they search for and feed on the bacteria. When bacteria are alone and separated in the water, they become an easy catch for the attackers. However, when they attach to a surface and join other bacteria, the amoebae cannot assault them.

    The researcher stated that biofilms may be seen as a source of new bioactive agents. When bacteria are organized in biofilms, they produce effective substances which individual bacteria are unable to produce alone.

    Antibiotics do not penetrate polysaccharide matrix. Difficult to diagnosis and culture. Microbes impart genetic material to one another to maintain resistance. Highly resistant to both immunological and non-specific defense mechanisms of the body.

    Natural Bacillus Thuringiensis (Non-GMO BT) is a gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium which during sporulation produces protein crystals. It is characterized as a widespread insect pathogen and its insecticidal activity is attributed to the parasporal crystals. The spores feed on natural intestinal flora then burst releasing protein toxin Crystalline protein damaging the gut. & Bio-pesticide BT (GMO)goes beyond traditional cross breeding techniques and exchanges traits of plants, animals and bacteria.

    BT Corn was produced by incorporating genetic material form a bacterium (bacillus thuringiensis) into genetic material of corn. Once consumed, BT products are activated in gut of insects making them safe for mammals. One way to avoid spraying corn is to genetically alter corn plant that produces an insect toxin called BT. A BT strain contains a second toxin called beta-exotoxin causes genetic damage to human blood cells.

    Problem with the Honey Bees/Soy protein released in air caused community outbreak of asthma in Spain in 19851986 & in New Orleans. Lectin protein blocks absorption of nutrients and the U.S. EPA & FDA are aware of these proteins in GMOs. StarLink corn shipped to US and UN was not healthy for human consumption and banned. This is also found in potato, soybeans, meat, poultry, eggs and milk resulting form animals fed such feed. Even after 4 months, strains of the BT organism are found in a nasal swab.     These organisms are shown to cause acute gastroenteritis and meningitis. The trigger is the bacterium’s toxins known as Bacillus thuringiensis CRY proteins giving other pathogens and pollutants the opportunity to overload one’s immune system.

    Most important topic–impossible to avoid, as the article you referenced indicates that 75% of grocery packaged products contain gmo’s. Article also reads that “non-GMO” listed foods were found to contain no genetically modified ingredients. So, it seems that if prouct is labelled “non-GMO” it was found in the research cited to be safe.
    All I know is that newly eating soy products most definitely preceded onset of illness. Of course, corn is present in so many forms it is hard to avoid unless one is very aware. We need to go after the corn lobby.

    Wonder if anyone has used kefir (a ‘healthy biofilm’ of sorts) and how likely one is to be allergic to it?

  9. Kefir is great as long as it is not loaded with sugar… except that its high calcium levels might actually further contribute to biofilm formation. Calcification and biofilm formation go hand in hand, and as you mentioned, kefir itself is mucous forming.

    Otherwise, kefir is not likely to trigger allergies (other than possibly dairy). Nonsugary fermented foods like Kefir owe most (but not all) of their health benefits to being a rich source of probiotics.

    If you want the probiotics without the additional calcium, there really is no better way to replenish the GI tract than a broad spectrum, high potency probiotic like our Essential Flora.       • Egads, there’s so much bad info out there on soy, first it’s GMO and 2nd it’s supposed to be terrible for the thyroid, but then, you are basically cured so that speaks for itself, sometimes, what works works no matter what others say. Herehoping, did you see Susans posts, she’s basically near cured now or is symptom free too.
