Daniel’s Dream of Four Beasts

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Daniel+7&version=NIV

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying on his bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream. Daniel said: "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea.

"The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a man, and the heart of a man was given to it. "And there before me was a second beast, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and eat your fill of flesh!’

"After that, I looked, and there before me was another beast, one that looked like a leopard. And on its back it had four wings like those of a bird. This beast had four heads, and it was given authority to rule.

"After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.

If you read Daniel Chapter 7 you will see that he is troubled in spirit concerning this vision and Daniel is given an explanation that ‘The four great beasts are four kingdoms that will rise from the earth’. So we are clearly told what these beasts in his vision are.

Revelation 13 – The Beast out of the Sea

And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, "Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?"

Interesting. In Daniels Vision there are 4 beasts. One beast had four heads, so that’s three beasts with one head and one beast with four heads, or seven heads in total. One beast was like a lion, another like a bear, and still another like a leopard. And the forth beast had 10 horns. Remember, Daniel was told these beasts were kingdoms that would rise and then fall.

Here in Revelation 13, during the end times we see A beast, that is, a single beast, with seven heads, ten horns, and a composite of the leopard, bear and lion. Is this the foretelling of all the nations of the world joining together out of the ash heap of history in opposition to Christ? Finally, this single beast in Revelation even goes so far as to stage it’s own counterfeit resurrection which astonishes the “whole world” such that they then follow after the beast. Revelation 13 lays down some heavy stuff, including the famous mark of the beast.

He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name

Take some time today if you are so inclined and read these two chapters, they make a great little bible study. It’s really not that hard to imagine is it …
