Joni Mitchell to quit music to help Morgellons sufferers

Joni-Mitchell-to-quit-music-to-help-Morgellons-sufferersLegendary singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell has said she is ‘trying’ to quit the music business to help out sufferers of Morgellons disease ‘ an illness she first publicly admitted to having in 2010.

‘Two nights ago, I went out for the first time since Dec. 23: I don’t look so bad under incandescent light, but I look scary under daylight,’ she said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

‘In America, the Morgellons is always diagnosed as ‘delusion of parasites,’ and they send you to a psychiatrist,’ she added later. ‘I’m actually trying to get out of the music business to battle for Morgellons sufferers to receive the credibility that’s owed to them.’

Mitchell has had an illustrious career beginning in the late 1960s folk scene. Her 1971 album Blue is considered to be one of the great masterpieces of folk music.

Throughout her career she has performed with a number of people and became immersed in the Laurel Canyon scene which was taking place in the Hollywood Hills.

During the interview she surprised fans by slagging off Bob Dylan and accusing Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) and Janis Joplin of sleeping with their whole bands..

‘You were born Roberta Joan Anderson, and someone named Bobby Zimmerman became Bob Dylan,’ performance artist John Kelly (who is the creator of a Joni Mitchell tribute show and was also being interviewed with the singer).

‘Bob is not authentic at all,’ Mitchell rebutted. ‘He’s a plagiarist and his name and voice are fake. Everything about Bob is a deception. We are like night and day, he and I.’

‘As for my name, my parents wanted a boy, so they called me Robert John,’ she explained. ‘When I came out a girl, they just added two letter A’s to that. Then I married Chuck Mitchell; I wanted to keep my maiden name ‘ I had a bit of a following as Joni Anderson ‘ but he wouldn’t let me.’

John Kelly, who was also in the interview, is the star of Paved Paradise: The Art of Joni Mitchell where he dresses as Mitchell and performs her songs.

Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now

Joni Mitchell Talks about Her Battle with Morgellons Disease

On April 22, The LA Times asked Joni this question:

You’ve come out in the media as a sufferer of a controversial condition known as Morgellons. How is your health currently?

Joni Replies

I have this weird, incurable disease that seems like it’s from outer space, but my health’s the best it’s been in a while, Two nights ago, I went out for the first time since Dec. 23: I don’t look so bad under incandescent light, but I look scary under daylight. Garbo and Dietrich hid away just because people became so upset watching them age, but this is worse. Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm: they cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable or mineral. Morgellons is a slow, unpredictable killer — a terrorist disease: it will blow up one of your organs, leaving you in bed for a year. But I have a tremendous will to live: I’ve been through another pandemic — I’m a polio survivor, so I know how conservative the medical body can be. In America, the Morgellons is always diagnosed as "delusion of parasites," and they send you to a psychiatrist. I’m actually trying to get out of the music business to battle for Morgellons sufferers to receive the credibility that’s owed to them.

The Full Interview is HERE

I wish I could spend 30 minutes talking to Joni on the phone, my guess is what we’re are accomplishing here could be of great benefit to Joni. I hope she does join the battle for sufferers, there are so many that need help. Special thanks to the little bird that sent me this story.

Joni Mitchell’s Song Dedicated to Morgellons

Go to this page and press "Play" at the very bottom of the screen. It’s very good, starts off slowly but really gets to the point, it’s like a prayer to God, "Why are you doing this to me?" Honestly, I urge everyone of you to listen to the whole thing, it’s heart breaking. I’m choking back the tears, only a person who’s been through the hell we all share in could write such a beautiful song. I’ll definitely be picking up this album.

Thank you Joni, our community will pray for you and we are grateful to you immensely.

Joni Mitchell Kept From Olympics by Morgellons Flareup

However, by phone from Vancouver, B.C., last week (where he served as head choreographer for the Vancouver Olympics Opening Ceremony), Alberta Ballet Company artistic director Jean Grand-Maitre said Mitchell, now 67, has had a flare-up of Morgellons syndrome, a potentially debilitating skin condition.

The attack kept her from taking part in Olympic festivities, and may keep her from coming to Seattle. (It may also help explain why she didn’t answer Seattle Times requests for an interview.)

In her stead, the ebullient, Quebec-born Grand-Maitre was happy to discuss "The Fiddle and the Drum," and how his plan to honor Alberta Ballet’s 40th anniversary with a short homage to Mitchell’s life and music morphed into a two-hour thematic suite for 29 dancers — with projected backdrops of the tunesmith’s vivid paintings.

The entire article can be found in the Seattle Times HERE

We understand entirely Joni, wishing you the best, you are not alone. Many of us are so sick. They’re still calling it merely a skin condition I see (sigh).

Here is another post I did when I first learned of Joni’s condition, I think you should listen to the song, very moving and Joni is singing in the background, I chose this song because of the Morgellons condition.

Morgellons – Helpless …

Morgellons – Helpless …

Pay close attention to the beautiful woman singing backup and see if you can figure out who she is … She’s one of our own, singing a song titled “Helpless …” a feeling we know all to well at times.

You should know me by now. Of course we are not helpless and there is great hope, I believe we are going to see the tide begin to turn on this horrible condition referred to as Morgellons right before our eyes very soon.

Please read my "Poor Mans Protocol" post if you haven’t read it yet …, not saying it’s the cure, but it’s good help …
